Village heritage

  • Château and ramparts of Saint‑Saturnin‑lès‑Apt: access on foot from the center; interpretation panels, restored windmills, view of the Luberon.
  • Upper church and chapels: Romanesque/Provençal architecture, pretty statues and altarpieces; short visit combinable with the castle.
  • “Doors, fountains and wash houses” route: stroll through the alleys to spot sculpted lintels, sundials and fountains (perfect with children).

Around dry stone and ocher landscapes

  • Village des Bories (near Gordes): open-air ecomuseum on dry stone architecture.
  • Sentier des Ocres (Roussillon) and Conservatoire des Ocres/Okhra: colorful walk + pigment workshops to understand the industrial history of ochres.
  • Ocher mines - Mines de Bruoux
  • lookouts of Provençal Colorad (Rustrel): landscape reading, history of the quarrymen and nice roundwalk

Museums

  • Industrial Adventure Museum (Apt): ochres, candied fruits, earthenware — very educational, often temporary exhibitions.
  • Lavender Museum (Coustellet): distillation, botany and perfumery; short, sensory visit.
  • Blachère Foundation (Apt): contemporary African art (check current exhibitions).
  • Apt History and Archeology Museum: Gallo-Roman remains, models of the city.
  • Lusterie Mathieu Museum: chandeliers from the Middle Ages to the present day, including a view of the workshop's work
  • "Goûter l'Art" - a themed art exhibition held every October in St. Saturnin-lès-Apt.

Religious sites and abbeys

  • Sénanque Abbey (near Gordes): Cistercians, guided tour/timetable; lavenders in flower at the end of June–July.
  • Sainte-Anne d’Apt Cathedral and treasure: stained glass windows, reliquary, medieval history of the episcopal city.

Crafts, galleries and know-how

  • Ceramists and glassmakers workshops around Apt, Roussillon, Gordes: demonstrations, unique pieces. We admire ceramics by Christine Denniel
  • Oil mills and lavender distilleries: visits/comments in season; nice explanations of the techniques.
  • Artisan and summer night markets: designer stands, music and friendly atmosphere.

Routes and guided tours

  • Guided village tours (Luberon tourist office): themes of “heritage”, “history of ocher”, “know-how”.
  • Commented nature & culture walks: reading of landscape, geology, useful flora and traditions.

Music, festivals and shows (depending on season)

  • Concerts in churches and chapels: classical music, intimate jazz in summer.
  • Luberon festivals and stages in Apt/L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: street theater, open-air cinema, temporary exhibitions.
  • Wednesdays in St. Saturnin-lès-Apt in summer

Good half-day combinations

  • Morning: castle + fountain trail in Saint‑Saturnin → lunch.
  • Afternoon: Ocher Conservatory in Roussillon (pigment workshop) → sunset at the Gordes belvedere.
  • Day: Industrial Adventure Museum in Apt + stroll in the old town → Blachère Foundation → return via Sénanque (outside if time is tight).

Practical advice

  • Opening times/closings: numerous slot visits, especially outside summer; check the day before.
  • Heat: favor indoors/workshops in the afternoon, outdoor sites in the morning or at the end of the day.
  • Reservations: pigment workshops, guided tours, Sénanque — book 24–48 hours in advance in high season.
  • Respect for places: silence at the abbey and in the churches; stay on ocher paths (friable cliffs).
